Weekly News

What a busy week we’ve had in Deer Class!

As well as a spot of assessment and our usual curriculum learning, we’ve also enjoyed Forest School, another visit from our artist-in-residence, Samba with Mrs Morton and time to explore the outdoor area behind our classroom.

The sun has definitely helped matters with lots of the class choosing to spend their free time hunting for insects and other small bugs in our year 4 outdoor area. They have also issued Mrs Julian with strict instructions about what plants they would like to grow.

English: We read the next two chapters of our class text and have begun to explore the character of Edward Tulane in more depth. The children practised their retrieval and summarising skills by selecting key words and phrases from the text to use in a story map. Our grammar focus has been prepositions for time, cause and place whilst in spelling we have looked at words containing ‘ure’

Maths: In maths we are continuing our learning about place value. We have been rounding numbers to their nearest ten and hundreds multiples as well as crossing the hundreds barrier and working with 4 digit numbers.

Wider Curriculum: Forest School this week was superb! Whilst the children always engage well, this week their collaboration, creativity and enthusiasm was a pleasure to witness. With very little adult input, lots of the children got busy building and produced everything from tree swings to hammocks and dens.  This was all from their own initiative.

Many thanks for your help (and patience!) with social distancing at pick up and drop off times. You may have noticed that Year 4 wait until the majority of year 5 children have been collected. This is to prevent the two bubbles from mixing.

In order to safeguard our children, we ask them to wait in line until their parent / guardian reaches the front of the queue at which point their teacher will call them forward.
