PE & Sports Premium

What is the Primary PE & Sports Premium?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to enhance the quality of physical activity, PE and school sport. This funding is designed to help schools make sustainable improvements that encourage all children to lead healthy, active lives.

How much is it?

In 2025–2026, primary schools in England with more than 16 pupils received £16,000 base allocation plus £10 for every pupil in Years 1 – 6.

Broadwater Down Primary School received £17,110.

How is it used?

Schools have the flexibility to decide how best to use their funding based on the needs of their pupils.

At Broadwater Down Primary, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy being active, discover new sports and activities and develop a lifelong love of physical pursuits. Through high-quality PE, exciting sporting opportunities and a culture that celebrates participation and achievement, we help our pupils grow in confidence, skill, resilience, teamwork and well-being.

We use this funding to enrich our curriculum, develop staff expertise, widen opportunities for all pupils and create lasting improvements that inspire healthy, active lifestyles both now and in the future.

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect." National Curriculum
